and to renal clearance; the binding of agents to proteins; microbial resistance; defense mechanisms of the host and the nature of the lesions in relation to chemotherapy; chemoprophylaxis of meningococcal, bacillary dysentery and streptococcal infections; chemotherapy in malaria and in rickettsial and viral diseases; transcutaneous anti-biotic treatment; and experimental and clinical evaluation of chemotherapeutic agents in cancer. The contributors to the fourteen different sections are experts in their particular field and hence this volume should be of great value to anyone, laboratory worker or clinician, interested in the fundamental aspects of chemotherapy. Each section is followed by an adequate bibliography.

Effect of Liquid Media and In Vitro Pre-acclimatization Stage on Shoot Elongation and Acclimatization of Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) cv. Najda
The effect of stationary liquid media to improve shoots elongation in date palm cv. Najda and an in vitro pre-acclimatization stage to increase the survival ercentage of plantlets in the greenhouse was investigated. Two basal liquid media were tested: full strength and half strength Murashige and Skoog medium (MS). Media were devoid of plant growth regulators (PGRs), containing 0.5 mg/L 6-benzy...

Morphophysiologicals Problems in Acclimatization of Micropropagated Plants in -Ex Vitro Conditions- A Reviews
Plant tissue culture refers to growing and multiplication of cells, tissues and organs of plants on defined solid or liquid media under aseptic and controlled environment. Micropropagation allows rapid production of high quality, disease-free and uniform planting material. The micropropagation of high quality planting materials of ornamentals, and forest and fruit trees has created new opportun...
متن کاملA multi-institutional and interdisciplinary approach to the assessment of vulnerability and adaptation to climate change in the Peruvian Central Andes: problems and prospects
A local integrated assessment of the vulnerability and adaptation to climate change in the Mantaro River Basin, located in Peruvian Central Andes, was developed between years 2003 to 2005. In this paper we present some lessons learned during the development of this study, emphasizing the multi-institutional and interdisciplinary efforts, briefly showing the methodological aspects, and pointing ...
متن کاملStepwise colonization of the Andes by ruddy ducks and the evolution of novel β-globin variants.
Andean uplift played a key role in Neotropical bird diversification, yet past dispersal and genetic adaptation to high-altitude environments remain little understood. Here we use multilocus population genetics to study population history and historical demographic processes in the ruddy duck (Oxyura jamaicensis), a stiff-tailed diving duck comprising three subspecies distributed from Canada to ...
متن کاملEffect of cold acclimation on the photosynthetic performance of two ecotypes of Colobanthus quitensis (Kunth) Bartl.
The effects of cold acclimation of two ecotypes (Antarctic and Andes) of Colobanthus quitensis (Kunth) Bartl. Caryophyllaceae on their photosynthetic characteristics and performance under high light (HL) were compared. Non-acclimated plants of the Antarctic ecotype exhibited a higher (34%) maximal rate of photosynthesis than the Andes ecotype. In cold-acclimated plants the light compensation po...
